The recent abuse of RNLI members by anti-migrant protesters exposes the true character of the movement. It is a morally perverse movement that feels able to abuse lifeboat men for saving endangered lives at sea. How astonishing it is that we have come to this point.

The treatment of Jason Arday was deeply troubling. The subtext of the furore seemed to be “How dare a black person hold a Cambridge chair?”. It only came to end with the tragic ending of his own life. We do not seem to have made much progress.

A new UK Prime Minister has been appointed in unusual of circumstances. Many argue there ought to be a General Election but that is to misunderstand the nature of our democracy. The UK is not a presidential democracy, it is a parliamentary democracy which is a very different thing.

God’s Grief
The death of Christ on the Cross is the central act in the Christian faith. Underappreciated, perhaps, is the place of God’s grief represented by it. God grieves not only for His Son, but also for all those who choose to reject the salvation won for them.
